What to Expect at Your First TRT Appointment

Your first TRT visit is usually an evaluation, not immediate treatment. Most providers focus on symptom review, medical history, and lab work so they can confirm whether TRT is appropriate for you.

How To Prepare Before You Go

• Bring a short symptom timeline (energy, libido, mood, recovery, body composition changes).
• Bring recent labs and your current medication/supplement list.
• Prepare questions about treatment options, monitoring, and total cost.
• Ask the clinic in advance whether fasting is needed for your blood draw.

What Happens During the Appointment

Expect a focused clinical conversation. Providers typically review symptoms, health history, fertility goals, sleep, and lifestyle factors. Some clinics include a brief physical exam; telehealth clinics rely more heavily on history plus lab data.

Labs You Should Expect

Most TRT evaluations include total/free testosterone plus safety and monitoring markers. Common labs include CBC, metabolic panel, PSA, and estradiol, with additional tests ordered as needed. Many providers require at least two qualifying morning testosterone labs before diagnosis.

Treatment Discussion (If You Qualify)

If your results support TRT, your provider should explain injections, gels, pellets, or patches with tradeoffs in cost, convenience, and monitoring approach.
